A shot gauge is a machined plug placed into a doubtful bullet hole to decide whether it touches the higher scoring ring. ISSF rules fix the gauge diameter for every discipline, restrict insertion to jury members, and allow only one gauge per hole.
ISSF electronic targets locate each shot with acoustic or optical sensors and compute the score instantly, with decimals deciding finals. Paper targets still settle most club matches by eye and gauge, and a shooter who understands both systems competes better on either.

ISSF finals switch to decimal scoring in tenth-of-a-ring increments and use a timed elimination format. Shooters who only practice qualification scoring can get caught off guard by the different rhythm and mental demands.
ISSF 10m air pistol is scored on a 17 cm target with ten concentric rings. Qualification uses whole-number scoring (1 to 10) across 60 shots, while the top-eight final divides each ring into decimal tenths for scores up to 10.9.
