ISSF competitions zero or penalize shots for identifiable rule breaches: crossfires, shots fired outside your time, extra shots, and unsafe gun handling. Your score can survive equipment failures, but it cannot survive a shot on the wrong target or one fired after the cease-fire signal.
TAR 831 is the French federation's vitesse réglementaire event: 25 shots in five timed series on the ISSF rapid-fire target at 25m. One or two hands allowed, which makes it the friendliest speed match in the FFTIR program.
ISSF 10m air pistol is scored on a 17 cm target with ten concentric rings. Qualification uses whole-number scoring (1 to 10) across 60 shots, while the top-eight final divides each ring into decimal tenths for scores up to 10.9.
ISSF targets score by ring value — the center ring is a 10. Finals use decimal scoring (10.0–10.9) to separate shooters, and the X-count tallies the deepest inner-tens to break ties.

The BDS 100m Ringziel is the German BDS federation's ring target for 100m rifle classes. It scores 1 to 10 on a 395mm sheet, with a 34mm ten ring, a 17mm inner ten and a 204mm black aiming mark.

In ISSF finals, a tie at an elimination cut is settled by a shoot-off: the tied athletes fire additional single shots until the tie breaks, with no countback.

A shot gauge is a machined plug placed into a doubtful bullet hole to decide whether it touches the higher scoring ring. ISSF rules fix the gauge diameter for every discipline, restrict insertion to jury members, and allow only one gauge per hole.
ISSF electronic targets locate each shot with acoustic or optical sensors and compute the score instantly, with decimals deciding finals. Paper targets still settle most club matches by eye and gauge, and a shooter who understands both systems competes better on either.
ISSF World Ranking points are awarded based on the championship tier, your final placing, and how many shooters competed. Only your four best results from the past 365 days count toward your total.
