The strictest target in shooting deserves a proper scorer
The ISSF 10m air rifle target is brutal on purpose: ten rings from 45.5 mm down to a 0.5 mm ten ring, each divided into decimal sub-rings. On paper, a human scorer plugs each 4.5 mm hole with a gauge and judges whether it touches the next line. Sixty shots later you have a total — and almost nothing else.
TargetLog scores that same card from a single photograph. On-device machine learning finds each hole, the app maps it against the real 10m ring geometry, and you get decimal values, inner tens and series totals in seconds. Nothing is uploaded; nothing needs a signal. You score the card at the firing line, before the next relay.
Why decimal feedback changes air rifle training
Qualification totals only tell you that you dropped points. The shot-level data tells you where:
- Inner-ten count. A 627 with 32 inner tens and a 627 with 12 are two different shooters heading in two different directions. TargetLog counts them automatically on every card.
- Series shape. Spot the 52 that always arrives in string four — usually fatigue or a decaying position — from the series breakdown, not from memory.
- Group center vs. hold. If your group is tight but sitting at nine o'clock, that's a sight adjustment, not a technique problem. Shot placement is preserved for every session.
- Progression without spreadsheets. Averages, distribution histograms and group-diameter trends build themselves as you log cards.
Made for the flow of club training
Air rifle training is rhythm — settle, aim, release, call the shot. Scoring should not break that rhythm. Photograph the card when you pull it, glance at the score, and shoot the next one. At the end of the session your full history is already logged, dated and charted, with every shot position preserved for review.
Works with standard printed and club-issued 10m air rifle targets — no special paper, no markings, no QR codes.
Know what a good score looks like
If you're working toward your first 600, or pushing from club level toward regional qualification, score benchmarks give every session context. TargetLog shows your progression against your own history — the most honest benchmark there is.
